Animals Of The San Marcos Foothills

Introduction

The San Marcos Foothills contain a great variety of vegetation that provide numerous habitats for a large variety of animal life. These include species that require larger territories for foraging and hunting like bobcat and birds of prey. Based on field surveys, record searches and experience with similar habitats, approximately 205 vertebrate species are anticipated to occur at the SMF. These may include 9 amphibians, 20 reptiles, 130 birds and 49 mammals, but not all of these “anticipated” species have been documented at this point.
